Official launching of the Master’s Degree Study Programme for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Teachers in Moldova

On 24th September 2021 a new Study Programme for TVET Teachers at Master’s Degree level was officially launched in presence of representatives of the Moldovan Ministry of Education, the consortium of the 2 implementing universities in Moldova -Technical University of Moldova and Pedagogical University from Balti, the bilateral GIZ programme “Support to Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the Field of Green Economy in the Republic of Moldova” and the GIZ “TVET Academy”.

The 12 participants of the first cohort of students enrolled in the newly created Master’s Degree Study Programme in Moldova also participated in the ceremony.

The establishment of the new study programme in Moldova could be achieved after one-year of intensive joint development work of the bilateral GIZ programme in Moldova, the GIZ “TVET Academy”, the Technical University Moldova in partnership with the Pedagogical University from Balti and the Otto-von-Guericke-University (OVGU) Magdeburg from Germany.

The reference basis for the development of the Master’s Degree Study Programme in Moldova was the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) “International Framework Curriculum for a Master’s Degree for TVET teachers and lecturers".

Relevant activities implemented in the development process covered elements such as elaboration of module structures and contents, teaching and learning materials, training of lecturers, study and internship regulations as well as accreditation processes.

These developments are based on the strategic cooperation and alliance between the OVGU and GIZ “TVET Academy” which are acting since a number of years within the UNEVOC Centre “TVET for Sustainable Development Magdeburg”.

Work and activities of OVGU and GIZ complement each other in terms of international vocational education and training cooperation in various areas. The cooperation is intended to combine the competencies and resources available on both parties' sides for mutual benefit and to contribute to the achievement of the common objective - the development of competencies for diverse target groups and stakeholders in vocational education and training. The strategic cooperation intends to bridge the gap between research, practical teaching and application and to strengthen sustainable international implementation.

The involved partners will continue to work closely together in further implementation of the master’s degree study programme with the objective to contribute to the improvement of overall quality of the TVET teacher’s training in Moldova in order to achieve an influx of young and well qualified teachers in the system. The results of better trained teachers will be quickly transferred to the classroom, which will ensure improvement of performance, efficiency and quality of the TVET system in Moldova.

Lessons learnt from these processes shall be worked up to provide the international community with relevant inputs and practices for further dissemination.
